It¡¯s been said that as a child her first words were sung not spoken. ¡°I wake up every morning and before I can even speak, I start singing! I¡¯m still in bed with my eyes closed but you'll hear me singing....I guess I¡¯m scared I¡¯ll wake up and won¡¯t be able to sing. I sometimes even sing myself to sleep! Dia is well known for her powerfully structured songwriting and her random surprises of personally created tracks. With a love for jazz and soul greats such as: Louie Armstrong, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, and Anita Baker to name a few, she in turn honors their classic styles in her harmonious deliveries. Known also for ghost-writing many lyrics for underground hip-hop artists from East to West coast, it is not the genre that captures her soul. Born on November 21 as Claudia Cervenka the name ¡°Dia¡± comes from a time most are familiar with... she explains, ¡°It¡¯s not like I hated my given name but all my friends had nicknames and I wanted one too. I looked at it on paper and the ¡°dia¡± stood out and there it was, then years later my friend said it stood for ¡®do-it-all¡¯-since I`ve had just about every job and that¡¯s been kind of the whole motto of my life.¡± The last name Leone has been designated to mean ¡°The One¡± which she truly is.
